Abilify is a medication that is used for schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder and other like mental illneses.

It is used for major depressive disorders in adults as an add-on-treatment to antidepressants. It is also used for  pediatric patients, ages 10 to 17, as a treatment of mixed manic episodes associated with Bipolar 1 Disorder and for treatment of Schizophrenia in adolescents ages 13 to 17.

Psychosis related to dementia in elderly people increases the risk of death, compared to placebo, in those patients treated with antipsychotic medicines including Abilify. Abilify can also increase suicidal thoughts especially within the first few months of treatment or whein the dose is changed in some children, teenagers, and young adults.

Some serious side affects of Abilify include but are not limited to increased risk of stroke, increases in blood sugar levels and neuroleptic malignant syndrome. The most common side effects experienced by adults on Abilify are constipation, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, anxiety, insomnia, and restlessness. In pediatric patients(10 to 17) Extrapyramidal disorder, headache, sleepiness, and nausea are the most common side effects.

It has been found that Abilify and other atypical antipsychotic drugs are being inappropriately used and prescribed too often.
