Omniscan Side Effects Lawsuit Attorney

              Omniscan is a gadodiamide injection for intravenous use. It is a clear, sterile, and colorless to slightly yellow, aqueous solution that contains 287mg of gadodiamide. Omniscan is not for intrathecal use and inadvertent intrathecal use can lead to coma, convulsions, and sensory and motor neurologic deficits. Contrast agents that are Gadolinium-based increase the risk of NEPHROGENIC SYSTEMIC FIBROSIS (NSF) in patients with acute renal insufficiency of any severity due to the hepato-renal syndrome.

              The gadolinium-based contrast agent is for intravenous use to visualize lesions with irregular vascularity in the brain, spine and associated tissues in an MRI. Omniscan is also used in the body for intravenous use in MRI to aid the visualization of lesion with irregular vascularity within the thoracic, pelvic cavities, abdominal, and retroperitoneal space.

              The recommended dose of Omniscan in adults is 0.2 mL/kg administered as a bolus intravenous injection and 20 minutes after the first dose an additional 0.4 mL/kg can be given. The recommended dose in children, ages 2-16, is 0.2 mL/kg administered as a bolus intravenous injection. For imaging the kidney in all patients, the recommended dose is 0.1 mL/kg a for intrathoric, intra-abdominal, and pelvic cavity imaging, the recommended dose for all patients is 0.2 mL/kg.

              Omniscan should be inspected visually for discoloration and particulate matter and should not be used if either of these is present. Omniscan should be drawn into syringe immediately when preparing to administer and any unused portion of Omniscan should be discarded. The injection of Omniscan should be flushed with 5mL of 0.9% sodium chloride to ensure that the desired volume is delivered completely.

              It is important to protect Omniscan from strong daylight and direct sunlight. Omniscan must not ever be frozen because freezing can cause vials to have small cracks compromising the product sterility. The Omniscan should be stored at 68°-77°F.
