              The Amiodarone HCI injection is for intravenous use only and

contains amiodarone HCI. Amiodarone is a class 3 antiarrhthmic drug.

              The Amiodarone HCI injection is used in patients noncompliant

with other therapy for the initiation of treatment and prophylaxis of

ventricular fibrillation recurring frequantly and hemodynamically unstable

ventricular tachycardia.

              The starting dose of Amiodarone that is recommended is about

1000mg over the span of the first 24 hours. The first dosing is broken down

into 150mg over the first 10 minutes followed by 360 mg injected slowly over

the proceeding 6 hours followed by the remaining 540mg over the remaining 18

hours. After the first 24 hours the infusion rate should be maintained at

0.5mg per minute (720mg per hour).

              Zelnorm, a tegaserod maleate tablet, was

approved in 2002 by the FDA and is used to treat constipated

women with irritable bowel syndrome. In 2004 the approval

was expanded to treat chronic constipation in both men and

women younger than 65. The drug is no longer available in

the U.S.

              The hydrogen maleate salt contained in Zelnorm

is tegaserod.  tegaserod is chemically designated as 3-(5-

methoxy-1H-indol-3-ylmethylene)-N-pentylcarbazimidamide

hydrogen maleate. The drug’s empirical formula is

C16H23N5O.C4H4O4 and the molecular weight is 417.47.

Tamiflu, an oseltamivir phosphate capsule used for oral solution, is used for the treatment of simple acute illness as a result of influenza infection in patients older than a year that have had symtoms for more than 2 days.

 Used as a prophylaxis of influenza in patients older than 1 year of age, it should be considered before treatment with Tamiflu is not a substitute for early vaccination yearly. Vaccination is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and can not be replaced by Tamiflu.  Resistance mutations can emerge and could decrease Tamiflu’s effectiveness as a result of the Influenza virus changing over time. Physicans should consider susceptibility patterns and the effects of treatment before deciding on whether to use Tamiflu on a patient.
